About Me

working with kids to learn DSLR photography

I gave my son his first digital camera for his second birthday. Now that he is eight, we have upgraded from the toy camera to one of my older DSLR camera. He has come a long way as a photographer and has even begun learning how to do things with that camera that I hadn't even learned how to do. Learning how to take photos with a DSLR camera with my son has been fun, interesting and a time that I will cherish forever. We have created this blog to share everything that we have learned during our learning adventure.

Senior Photography: Why Should You Specialize In This Field?

One of the things a senior student looks forward to most is their senior pictures. As a photographer who does portraits for a living, focusing exclusively or mainly on senior photography is a wise endeavor on your part.

Whether you want to diversify your portfolio or you want to make your photography business more competitive in your area, specializing in senior photography is the wisest way to go. Here's why.

You have a guaranteed high season for the year

Senior photography can be profitable for you every year as new seniors enter their final year of school or are getting ready to graduate. If you offer senior photography packages, you can make even more money because those who don't want to buy senior pictures due to costs can still have them done.

You can feature your senior photography sessions as early into the school year as you wish, although waiting until just after the holiday winter season can be best. This means several months out of the year can keep you super busy, with your highest profits coming in just around the spring season when the school year is about to end.

You have a wider client base

Some people only ever get senior photography done so they can announce the graduation of their children from high school and they don't get other types of photos done at all. If you want to capitalize on the market that can help you branch out and reach more clients, then start with senior photography. These same clients will continue to use you for all their children's senior photos if they like your work and will spread your good name around to their friends and family.

You have a niche

Once you have a niche in senior photography, it's much easier to set up photo sessions and work with your clients. You can choose a set number of locations you're willing to shoot in and you can minimize the props you'll need to use. Unlike family photography and other types of photography, senior photography is pretty straightforward and you only have one model at a time to work with.

Having a niche in the field of photography is important and can help you fine-tune your talents while making a true profit at the same time. As you begin exploring working with this type of photography, consider creating senior photography packages that students can choose from to further make their experience more custom.
